PŪRe Delicious: French Toast

French Toast

When you’re looking for an awesome breakfast, this is the French toast you want! Bread soaked in eggs and milk (or cream) and sautéd to a honey brown crispness. You can top it with jam, syrup, whip cream, ice cream, or berries. It’s delicious and I make piles of it at once and freeze it. Easy to defrost, warm in the microwave and still delicious.

A couple of notes here on how I have adapted a recipe over the years. I do not use cream. I use 2% milk because that’s what my guys drink. Less fattening too! You can really use any type of bread: wheat, egg, white, or my son loves raisin toast. And I often sprinkle cinnamon on one side while it’s cooking.

Ingredients:

2/3 cup whole milk, cream or half and half (or as I said I just use milk)

4 large eggs (I often use only 3)

1 tsp. vanilla

¼ tsp. salt (I do not use)

Cinnamon sprinkled (optional)

2 tbsp. unsalted butter (I use salted😊)

Directions:

Whisk together in a shallow bowl the 1st 4 ingredients.

One or two at a time or more if you pan fits more, dip the bread in the egg mixture and add it to a pan that is non-stick and has a bit of butter. When the side gets golden brown flip it with a spatula to the other side. This is when I often add a wee bit of cinnamon. Serve immediately or keep them warm in the oven at 200 degrees while you finish cooking the rest if you are eating right away. If you’re going to freeze them let them cool down before freezing. I often divide into 2 or 3 pieces with parchment paper in between.

Serve with syrup or any of the toppings mentioned above. Mmmm....
